Being a professional athlete, I have many habits in my day to day life. Waking up at the same time, going to meetings and practice at the same time, game day schedules...the list goes on.

Food habits are the most important for me to keep and one of my favorites is my morning routine.

Oatmeal is basically a daily staple in my routine. It's delicious, filling and packed with the nutrients I know I need to get through my day. The more healthy ingredients I add, the more vitamins and minerals I absorb. I wanted to share my go-to oatmeal formula to show you that you don't need anything special to get everything you need in your morning meal. These are easy to find in any grocery store and always stocked in my pantry.

Power Oatmeal:

  • Oatmeal (1 cup)
  • Cacao Powder (1 tbsp)
  • Cinnamon (sprinkle to taste)
  • Maca Powder (1 tsp)
  • Chia Seeds (1 tbsp)
  • Ground Flax Seed (1 tbsp)
  • Raisins (2 tbsp)
  • Goji Berries (1 tbsp)
  • Chopped Pecans or Walnuts (1-2 tbsp)
  • Almond Milk (1/3 cup)
  • Almond Butter (3 tbsp)
  • Fresh Fruit

I add 1-2 cups of boiling water to the oats and let it sit for a couple minutes. Then I mix in all the ingredients except for the almond butter and the fresh fruit. Once its mixed I add the almond butter and fresh fruit on top. Right now my favorite is the Nutzo Seven Nut & Seed Butter, blueberries, and banana. If you feel you need to sweeten it I'd recommend a little coconut sugar or agave nectar.

This is how I usually start my day, my fuel source for games, practice, and workouts. Enjoy!
